Lessons

Training

Training

Owner and trainer, Mackenzie Appleman, provides both individual and group hunt seat equitation riding lessons. Lessons are available for riders of all ages and skills levels.  Lessons emphasize safe and proper riding techniques in a fun and welcoming atmosphere.  Mackenzie uses her background as a professional K-12 educator to properly instruct and engage riders to maximize their learning.

Children and adults will learn how to properly groom, tack, and untack their mount as a part of their lesson. For those riders that are just beginning, please arrive to your lessons wearing long pants and closed-toed shoes with no more than a 1" heel. Tack and helmets are provided for riders who are just beginning their equestrian journey, but if you have your own saddle and riding apparel you are welcome to bring it along. Riders can enjoy a lesson on one of our horses or ponies or you can bring your own  to the farm, pending evidence of UTD immunizations. Lessons range from 30 minutes to one hour and are scheduled on weekly or twice weekly basis.

Training

Some of our boarded mounts require a little more attention and work before they are ready to partner with their rider for their horseback riding experience. We offer training services on a customized basis depending on the needs of horse and rider. We begin by developing appropriate ground manners in order to develop a strong foundation before we transition to ringwork.  Once we transition to ringwork, we spend a significant amount of time developing balance and stamina before introducing over fence work.

In addition to under saddle training, we also enjoy the challenge of working with horses that hard to load. We employ the John Lyons trailer loading technique to troubleshoot the tough loaders and our happy to help you along the way!

In addition to training, we also offer exercise rides during times of travel or transition. If your horse isn't a fan of downtime, let us know and we can continue a work routine in your absence.
